Work Scope:

Change out gas turbine exhaust silencer.

Following the discovery of cracks on one of the gas turbine exhaust silencers BSV were tasked with changing out the exhaust silencer. BSV used their experience from similar work scopes on Balmoral and Scott Platforms to produce a work pack that included all the work scopes relating to the change out. Following a detailed platform survey and meetings with platform and onshore personnel the work scope was agreed with all parties concerned.

The main issues identified were the short notice given to start the job which was to tie in with an engine change, the lack of space around the silencer and the size of the silencer to be changed out (dims Height: 3,700mm; H: 2,500mm; Weight: 3,700Kg).

It was agreed that the old silencer would be cut into manageable sized pieces and removed through the module door, a route for the new silencer was agreed with the platform. The silencer sat below the main deck but heavily offset from a deck hatch so pipe work including the main fire pump pipe work had to be moved to allow the new silencer to be routed and placed in position. The new silencer was then assembled insitu. The work scope was completed in a timely manner without any accidents or incidents.

Work Scope:

BSV were asked to manufacture and supply a new expansion joint for a gas Turbine exhaust plus temporary supports and shims. In order to facilitate the safe change out of the expansion joint it was necessary to remove horizontal bracing and a tie beam, as these members were part of the primary support structure BSV were asked to provide detailed structural design to allow temporary removal of horizontal and diagonal braces using cold cutting techniques to allow removal of the old expansion joint and fitting of the new one. Once the new expansion joint was installed then the original braces were match marked, site drilled and spliced back into position using splice plates and sleeves.
